We, the ProServe engineering team in AWS ProServe India LLP (“ProServe India”), work with internal partners/customers to build production-ready applications for the most strategic cloud customers around the country. It could be anything: technology for the automotive industry to help them develop self-driving vehicles, supply chain management systems that help minimize carbon emissions, software systems for pharmaceutical companies to speed up drug development, and thousand other customer needs. We solve the world’s most challenging problems using the cutting-edge cloud technology.

Key job responsibilities

Lead team in driving engineering excellence, quality and operational focus towards achieving a fast paced results and software delivery
Own the team’s long-term technical strategy as well as the successful execution of their projects
Stay updated with the ever-widening stream of AWS platform improvements and new services.
Work backwards from customers’ needs to produce business outcomes.
Respectfully challenge requirements and persistently advocate for Amazon’s highest engineering standards.
Communicate clearly (verbal/written), within the team and external (technical/non-technical) groups.
Obtain/maintain AWS Certifications.
Occasional travel (&lt20%).

You would be ideal for this role if you have experience developing people in engineering functions. You delight in career milestones and development of others and take pride in representing your team during excellent delivery as well as through challenging situations. You are passionate about high engineering standards and relentless in pursuing it. You have experience developing and operating software for complex product scenarios. You have familiarity with software development platforms and processes, are at ease with agile scrum, kanban and have helped evolve these processes for your teams. You have demonstrated experience in interfaces with a broad set of stakeholders, managing communications at multiple levels and are an effective collaborator.

A day in the life
The day-to-day activities of this role include people management activities such as hiring/promotion/1:1’s, long-term and short-term goal setting, customer interactions during pre-sales and delivery cycles, ensuring engineering and operational excellence which may include design review, operational readiness reviews, security reviews, etc.

About the team
AWS ProServe Customer Engineering (CE) services customer demand for assistance with AWS native software development. ProServe CE offers dedicated teams of software developers who can build customer solutions in the same way that AWS and Amazon core services are built and operated. The team’s objective is accelerating customer’s business outcome through the development of operationally ready AWS native software solutions for customers.

The oncall duties for our teams are minimal (nearly zero) as we handoff the solutions to the customer after the launch.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
5+ years of experience developing software professionally and contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new or current distributed systems.
1+ years of experience directly managing engineering teams
Experience with agile software development.
Ability to communicate clearly with peers and technical/non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Cloud design, development and operations
Experience with native AWS design and development
Experience working with large and diverse software engineering teams
Working knowledge of Agile scrum including adoption, refinement of the process
Experience in large enterprise IT, owning and managing programs and products for high scale and business complexity
Experience with IT Operations for online services, on call management and automated monitoring and incident management
