DESCRIPTION
The Sr. WHS (Workplace Health and Safety) Manager will be primarily responsible for managing all health and safety-related matters for our Fulfillment Centers (FCs) and AMXL team in India. The individual will be tasked with implementing Amazon’s safety policies and ensuring compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations.
By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce WHS risks in our processes, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for our Associates and Contractors. The Sr. WHS Manager must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team, influencing change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
The Sr. WHS Manager must be an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual will be responsible for instructing and training Operations Leaders on company safety policies, as well as assisting the regional teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites. The Sr. WHS Manager will be required to identify best practices and incorporate them into our standards to continuously improve company safety policies. This role requires excellent safety program knowledge, as well as relevant safety, environmental, and ergonomic expertise, which must be demonstrated when working with Operations.
Additionally, the Sr. WHS Manager will support the WHS activities and programs related to new expansions and launches in the region, ensuring that new projects are executed safely without any delays due to safety concerns. This individual will work closely with the BD, launch, and engineering teams to provide WHS assessments at different phases.
The Sr. WHS Manager will be responsible for leading a team of WHS professionals. This individual must create and execute leadership development plans for their team members, communicate team expectations, provide frequent and appropriate feedback, and ensure they are executing to the core competencies of an Amazon WHS professional. The Sr. WHS Manager must also demonstrate the ability to assess WHS talent and select appropriate bench strength to meet current and future business needs.
Key job responsibilities
1. Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and the ability to work with these and company policies.
2. Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable Amazon WHS Policies.
3. Measure the region and sites’ performance against published requirements in WHS policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
4. Ensure WHS record-keeping and data integrity and provides Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business WHS initiatives.
5. Deliver on-time and quality projects to Operations. Deliver quality projects on time to Operations.
6. Analyse WHS metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to justify the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the WHS risk is highest.
7. Analyse WHS review and audit results and develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other facilities.
8. Audit record keeping practices and Gensuite entries to ensure compliance to global WHS standards and local regulations.
9. Audit the workplace organization and Associate behaviours to ensure that training, auditing and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
10. Manage and mentor the WHS team in the assigned facilities.
11. Spend time at the FCs and AMXL (including Delivery Stations) and seek input from WHS teams, Associates and leaders on WHS program improvement opportunities. Ensure open communication on status of progress and resolution against these suggestions.
12. Lead injury reduction efforts by performing targeted Kaizens in partnership with the Operations teams based on the risks identified in each task/at each job position.
13. Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required WHS training.
14. Review for effectiveness the deployed WHS tools and revise to ensure continual improvement.
15. Partner with corporate and other regional field WHS personnel to leverage global WHS best practices into INOPs network standards.
16. Manage and mentor the Regional WHS Managers and Multi-Site WHS Managers on their team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
2. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in safety and/or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, service operations, or other relevant settings applicable to the role
3. Minimum 10 years of experience in people management and performance leadership

1. Certified Safety Professional preferred
