Job summary

Amazon.com, a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle, Washington, is the global leader in e-commerce and the Payment Services Division is looking for a motivated business analyst to join APAC Payment Business Operations team in Chennai, India. This role is responsible for managing and analyzing Payments and Gift Cards data to identify and resolve business problems impacting customer experience and payment performance for Amazon APAC.

We are looking for an experienced Business Analyst to join our team and help unlock insights. The ideal candidate will be excited about understanding and implementing new and scalable processes and providing data to improve the local payments experiences we offer to our customers in the region by partnering with key stakeholders and digging deep into the business challenges to scale. They will be comfortable delivering/presenting these recommended solutions by retrieving and integrating artifacts in a format that is immediately useful to improve the business decision-making process. This role requires an individual with excellent analytical abilities as well as an outstanding business acumen.

• Run basic regression methods (e.g., linear, logistic, basic time series) and identify opportunities to leverage more advanced modeling methods
• Partner with data engineering teams to influence the direction of data visualization platforms
• Consistently own and deliver deep dives in the form of narratives that influence business direction
• Influence other teams to ensure deadlines are met; hold stakeholders accountable
• Effectively manage project resources; create solutions to unexpected obstacles and reallocate resources as necessary
• Interact with other teams to ensure coordination of efforts throughout the project and obtain buy-in as needed
• Make prioritization decisions based on relevancy and impact to business goals and needs.

The ideal candidate will create structured metrics and provide ad-hoc analysis to help us understand and improve the experience. They are experts in partnering and earning trust with our business, operations and tech leaders. They influence development roadmaps to build scalability and automation into reporting and analysis, driving key business decisions.
This team ensures that Amazon can delight its customers through delivering a consistent, low friction purchase and payment experiences across all surfaces (whether “owned” or not by Amazon), while retaining our industry-leading low fraud rates, effectively removing payments related bottlenecks.

About the team
Amazon Payments owns and maintains the software platform which processes 20+ payment methods/products in APAC. The APAC Payment Business Operations Team supports the larger Payments Division which includes software development, product management and technical operations. The Business Operations team is the first contact for payment customer experience and payment performance issues, receiving escalations from internal stakeholders such as Customer Service, Retail Operations, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Tax, Risk, Security, and Compliance, as well as third party partners and banks relied upon to process payments. Additionally, this team is responsible for driving operational efficiencies and escalation reduction opportunities. This team also assess third party payment partners and manages the operational relationship with third party payment partners, advocating for customer experience and driving operational improvements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in Excel
5+ years relevant experience in financial/business analysis
Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders
Experience with SQL

• Master degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field
• 5+ years of professional experience in a business analyst/data analyst/statistical analyst role
• 3+ years of experience conducting analysis and data mining using Excel
• Understanding of data warehousing and data modeling
• Familiarity with writing and optimizing SQL (or similar) to handle extremely large datasets
• Proficient and direct experience with one or more major data visualization tools including Tableau/QuickSight/Power BI etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of relevant experience in a business analyst/data analyst/statistical analysis role
• Expertise in writing and optimizing SQL to handle extremely large datasets
• Experienced in leading large-scale analytics projects with BI solutions development using AWS technologies – Redshift, Athena, S3, EC2, QuickSight, etc.
• Familiarity in designing and implementing ETL Pipelines, Query Performance Tuning, and other data engineering techniques
