The opportunity
The Business Data Analyst (BDA). is the connection point between the Product Line Lead and the technical and Quality Assurance (QA) teams. The BDA translates functional requirements into detailed technical specifications, supports the development cycle and drives functional validation until enhancements and resolved defects are ready to be moved into Production. Additionally, the BDA provides support for data consumers, reviews regular data updates, conducts functional and data-related validations and sends out communications when necessary. Data consumers are mainly R&DA teams as well as some external consumers in other functions or organizational entities. The Backend product line is focused on sourcing and integrating different data sources, organizing them in a generic, business oriented and consumable data model and applying EY’s business rules as well as managing and maintaining the core reporting structures and supporting tools. All Essentials tools, additional supplemental reports, analytics tools as well as some external recipients will be supported by this product line. Further integration and optimization of the reporting backend is planned, as well as moving it to a modern technology stack. The main responsibility is to manage the continuous enhancement and defect management of the backend based on requirements from the different data consumers or upstream changes as well as to ensure smooth operations and good & timely consumer support.

The R&DA ensures that EY is keeping pace with the many analytical and technological changes taking place in the business world, evolving our tools and the way we look at information, to best support the client serving as well as corporate responsibilities in a rapidly changing business world.
Your key responsibilities
Turn data needs and business rules into requirements (user stories) including detailed acceptance criteria ensuring quality, consistency as well as generic and consumable solutions that all data consumers can benefit from
Identify opportunities to enhance the backend data model and processes and optimize as well as stabilize the underlying data loading and transformation processes and data quality checks
Validate enhancements as well as resolved defects from a functional and data accuracy point of view
Collaborate closely with Product Line and Backend Product Line Leads and their teams to gather prioritized requirements and data issues, eliciting detailed information to assist the technical team in executing the planned tasks
Work closely with QA team to define validation criteria and activities and helps prioritizing defects ensuring high quality of deliverables
Support R&DA internal and external User Acceptance Test (UAT) activities
Build a relationship with upstream data providers (primarily CDW) regarding data quality and batch SLAs as well as interfaces to planning tools
Work hand in hand with the product line teams and align timelines and dependencies with their roadmap
Stay up to date on technical innovation, new product offerings of our key vendors and regularly collect feedback from data consumers
Skills and attributes for success
Experience in project management – agile/scrum project management would be beneficial
Good communication with the ability to flex between functional and technical conversations
Ability to effectively communicate and influence IT teams to solve data problems and support functional design
Understanding of EY’s key source systems (e.g. Mercury, Dynamics, P&B, GRP), CDW and data flows as well as IT’s key processes and rules
Understanding of the EY’s financial business rules, KPIs and know/learn how these concepts are applied technically and what the key dependencies are
Experience with requirement documentation
Adept in data and root cause analysis as well as data validation using SQL, Power BI and Excel tools
Skilled in creating and supplying data samples or mockups using Excel and SQL scripts to meet business needs, address incidents, and handle various data-related assignments
Solution oriented and problem solving skills
Ability to adapt and change positively in response to changing business priorities
Ability to work independently with a mindset to stay ahead of the technical team needs
Detail oriented, analytical, structural work approach as well as emphasis on quality and consistency
Fluent English skills

To qualify for the role you must have
3 or more years of experience in a finance or technical department
Some relevant business experience within EY would be beneficial
